On the future of computing

A few things have been bothering me more and more in past years when it comes to the current direction of computing. Despite the massive advancements in hardware, the quality of software has been degrading rapidly overall. This is combined with the complete loss of control over the software that we use and the data it works with. Even simple, straightforward applications are now massive in size and require a persistent internet connection to operate without there being a single reason for that.

I have been keeping this frustration unaddressed, but recently, this has started to change, as the frustration has reached a tipping point. As someone fortunate enough to have the necessary skills, I have started to remediate these issues by self-hosting applications, building my own, fixing what is broken, and learning about and contributing to the technologies that aim to provide an alternative to this.

The best way to try and change something is by starting in your own back yard.
